  • Mentoring Workshops
  • Rackham Graduate School's guide: "How to Mentor Graduate Students: A Guide for Faculty." This guide is filled with helpful advice on how to improve your effectiveness as a mentor. It also includes student perspectives on important qualities in a mentor and what they find to be helpful when navigating the mentor relationship.

Research

Research Development, Office of Research
Research Development offers workshops and classes throughout the year on proposal development, how to search for grants, current funding initiatives, junior faculty award programs, and other topics relevant to successfully competing for grants.

Institute for Social, Behavioral, and Economic Research
Research development and proposal writing workshops focused on the needs of faculty in the Division of social sciences, social science faculty in other divisions at UCSB, and interdisciplinary research topics.

Interdisciplinary Humanities Center
The IHC offers workshops on various aspects of research development and proposal writing, which can be tailored to a specific department or research group.

UC-CSU CREDITS Research Team Leadership Training
The Center for Research, Excellence and Diversity in Team Science (CREDITS) provides training for faculty and administrative leaders to increase and enhance Team Science (TS) and collective intelligence capacity, effectiveness, and excellence in the UC and CSU systems.

Career Coaching and Work-Life Satisfaction

National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD)
NCFDD provides a variety of programs, such as 60-90 minute webinars on a range of topics from writing to wellness to interpersonal conflict resultion. They also offer multi-week online and interactive courses led by facilitators to tackle the Academy's most pressing challenges for faculty members.

Academic Personnel
Tenure and Promotion Workshops focus on the tenure and promotion processes for advancement from Assistant to Associate Professor, and from Associate to Full Professor. In a panel presentation, department chairs, deans, members of the Committee on Academic Personnel (CAP), recently promoted faculty members, and the Academic Personnel staff discuss how cases are evaluated, and how to strategically balance teaching, research and service for your promotion case.

  • Diversity & Inclusion Training - focuses on various aspects of diversity including, but not limited to racism, sexism, ableism, socio-economic differences and religion.
  • Search Committee Briefings - address a Search Committee's role and responsibilities under the Campus Affirmative Action Plan to address equal opportunity and to engage in active and effective good faith efforts to address our campus' placement goals.
